ScrubPic

What hidden information is in your videos?

Videos carry hidden information just like photos, and sometimes much more: a few cameras record your position for every second of the clip.

iPhone videos

  • The location where recording started, with altitude.
  • The iPhone model and iOS version.
  • The recording date and time, with your time zone.
  • An ID that links the video to its Live Photo or other copies.

Android videos

Most Android phones save the recording date and, if the camera has location access, the GPS coordinates. Some also add the phone model.

Action cameras and drones

GoPro cameras with GPS turned on, and many DJI drones, record a separate data track alongside the video. It can hold your position, speed and altitude throughout the clip, which can reveal a whole route, not just one point.

Removing it without re-exporting

Video editors remove metadata by exporting a new file, which takes time and lowers quality. ScrubPic removes only the hidden information and leaves the picture and sound exactly as they were. It also removes GPS data tracks completely. If you want, you can keep the location, the recording date or the device name.

Stop it at the source

  • iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Camera › Never.
  • Android: turn off the location option in your camera’s settings.
  • GoPro and drones: turn off GPS in the camera settings if you don’t need it.

Check your own files. See what they reveal and remove it, free and without uploading.
