What ScrubPic shows
Drop a photo and ScrubPic reads every block of hidden information inside it, then sorts it into groups you can take in at a glance:
- Location
- GPS coordinates, altitude, camera direction and the nearest town.
- Content Credentials
- A signed label some apps add, showing which app made the image and whether AI was used.
- Phone / camera
- Make, model, lens and sometimes the serial number.
- Date & time
- When the photo was taken and last changed, often with the time zone.
- Apps & editing
- The software that saved it, editing steps and AI generation settings.
- Owner & copyright
- Names, copyright notices and rights information.
- Captions & notes
- Titles, descriptions, keywords and comments.
- Camera settings
- Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length and similar details.
- Hidden extras
- Preview thumbnails, extra embedded images, unique IDs and manufacturer data.
The top line, This file reveals, sums up what a stranger could learn from the file. Show all details lists every single field.
Where this information comes from
Most of it is EXIF data, written by the camera. Editing apps add XMP data, including editing history. News and stock photos often carry IPTC captions and credits. Phone makers add private “maker notes”, which ScrubPic lists as hidden manufacturer data because their format isn’t public.
Viewing is free and private
Everything is read by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the place name comes from a list of towns built into the page, not from a map service. When you’re done, save a cleaned copy or simply close the page.
Questions
Can I see where a photo was taken?
If the photo still has GPS data, ScrubPic shows the coordinates, the nearest town and a link to open the spot on a map. Many photos from social networks and messaging apps have already had their location removed.
Why does my photo show no information?
The app or website it came from probably removed it already. Screenshots and images saved from social media usually carry very little.
Does ScrubPic check whether a photo is real?
No. It shows what the file says about itself. Information can be edited or removed, so treat it as a clue, not proof.
